Secondly, you use essential oils that are beneficial for your health in more ways than one. Thirdly, it is less expensive. And finally, you have the discretion of making it into any form you want – air freshener spray, gel air freshener, wood block, etc.

DIY Easy Ways of Making Natural Air Fresheners

There are various forms and scents with which you can play around while making a homemade air freshener. Here are a few ideas you can try out.

1. Lemon and Herb Air Freshener Spray

  • Water – 1 and 1/4th cups
  • Dried basil/mint – 4 tablespoon
  • Baking Soda – 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon essential oil – 5-6 drops
  • Spray bottle – 500mL


  1. Take 1/2 cup of water and add in the dried basil or mint leaves. Let it boil for 5 minutes on low-medium heat.
  2. In the spray bottle, add this water by straining the leaves.

2. Lavender-Chamomile Air Freshener Spray

  • Lavender essential oil – 10 drops
  • Chamomile essential oil – 5 drops

  • Baking Soda – 2 teaspoon


  1. Boil the cloves in a ½ cup of water for 5 minutes. Let it infuse.
  2. Pour it in a spray bottle and add in rest of the ingredients.
  3. Shake well and use.

4. Baking Soda Air Freshener

  • Baking soda – as needed
  • Essential oil(s) of choice – 6-7 drops
  • Dried flowers of choice – 3-4 pieces
  • Mason jar – 250mL


  1. Fill the jar with baking soda.
  2. Put in the essential oil, or dried flowers or both.
  3. It is ready. Place it in the room where you want the freshening effect.
  4. Change the baking soda once a week when it becomes damp.

5. Flowery Gel Air Freshener

  • Lavender essential oil – 10 drops
  • Geranium essential oil – 5 drops
  • Grapefruit essential oil – 5 drops
  • Unflavoured gelatin – 2 teaspoon

  1. For gel air freshener, cook some water and gelatin and get the hot mixture
  2. In the jar, add in the essential oils.
  3. Pour in the prepared hot mixture in the jar and mix
  4. Let it cool down for the gel to form.

  1. In a jar, pour in the essential oils and dried leaves.
  2. Fill rest of the jar with fractionated coconut oil. Mix well.
  3. Place the reed in the jar.

  • Rosemary essence – 20 drops
  • Peppermint essence – 10 drops
  • Cotton balls/cones – 5
  • Pouch – 1


  1. Use cones or cotton balls as carriers.
  2. Pour in the essential oils and let them be soaked.
  3. Place it inside a pouch, and tighten the rope.

  • Ginger essential oil – 5 drops
  • Carrier Odourless Oil (of choice) – as needed

  1. Cut the orange in half. Gently scrape off the pulp, without removing the white inside stem (in the middle of the fruit).
  2. Mix in the essential oil in the carrier oil.
  3. Pour the oil into the peel and let it sit for an hour.
  4. Light up the stem with a lighter. It may take a few minutes. Once the stem turns black, it is easier to light.

16. Autumn-nostalgic air freshener spray

  • Cinnamon essence – 5-6 drops
  • Apple slices – of 1 apple
  • Cloves – 2-3
  • Water – 1 ¼ cup


  1. To make this air freshener spray, boil the apple slices and cloves in ½ cup water for 10 minutes at low-medium heat.
  2. Pour it in a spray can and mix the rest of the ingredients.
