A foot blister is a small bubble-like fluid filled eruption that forms on your foot. These can vary in size and are triggered due to different reasons and can trouble your day-to-day activities by causing discomfort when you walk, exercise or when you are standing for a long period of time. What Are the Causes of Blisters on Feet?
1. Long Hours of Standing
Prolong walking or standing for several hours a day can be one of the foot blister causes. Even if not everyone who walks or stands have blisters, the friction and the pressure on the heels, soles, and toes makes your feet more prone to blisters. Hence, the longer you’re on your feet during a day, the more chances are of developing a foot blister.
2. Excessive Moisture or Perspiration
Extreme moisture or perspiration may also cause such skin bubbles, especially amongst runners. These tiny blisters seem to appear when sweat clogs the pores in your feet and there’s a lack of air circulation. It occurs mainly during summer and in humid areas.
At times when your skin is exposed to excessive heat and UV rays, it can not only cause rashes and pigmentation all over your body but can lead to the formation of a foot blister as well. These blisters usually feel itchy and give away a burning sensation.
4. Allergic Reaction
Allergic reactions are a result of your body’s response to various allergens. These allergens are substances that don’t really pose a threat to your body but at the same time, are not compatible with your immune system. When you inhale, eat, and touch such allergens, it may cause blisters.

It has been noticed that poorly fitted shoes trigger the eruption of blisters as shoes that are too tight or too loose for your feet can rub against your skin and create friction. This constant abrasion leads to the development of a fluid-filled bubble underneath the upper layer of your skin.
Exposure to intense or prolonged cold can freeze the tissues beneath the surface of your skin and trigger blisters. Although the temperature might be above zero, your skin is likely to freeze if it’s wet or exposed to severe wind chills. As a side effect, when your skin comes in contact with such toxin containing products, it triggers blisters. This commonly occurs in children and people with sensitive skin.
8. Fungal Infections
Fungal infections develop due to the overgrowth of candida, the yeast that occurs naturally within your body. Blisters act as a symptom of severe fungal infection when there’s an imbalance of yeast versus good bacteria. The bubbles, in this case, are either filled with fluid or air. Often other fungal skin disorders like athlete’s foot, jock itch and ringworm can cause feet blisters.
Chickenpox is typically characterised by the appearance of red itchy blisters all over the body including the feet. These bumps naturally start to heal after a week or two when the blisters filled with fluid begins to leak. The skin becomes crusty, flaky, and dry and often leaves behind marks.
10. Bacterial Infection
There are certain bacteria that commonly live on your skin without causing any damage. Nonetheless, at various instances, they can enter your body through cuts, open wounds, or other breaks in the skin. These infections lead to itchy sores that develop into blisters. Such blisters may break open and ooze fluid that contains infectious bacteria, capable of infecting others if they have contact with it.
Herpes is an infection caused by the contagious herpes simplex virus. Blistering sores are sometimes associated with herpes and can bring about severe discomfort. Regardless of age, the virus can attack anyone and gets spread more rapidly if an infected person is experiencing an outbreak.
12. Dyshidrotic Eczema
Dyshidrotic eczema, also known as dyshidrosis, is a kind of skin disorder where blisters appear to form on the soles of your feet and/or the palms of your hands. The fluid-filled small bubbles are generally itchy and last for around two to four weeks. Often the skin condition is related to seasonal allergies, such as hay fever and the blisters may develop more frequently during the spring season.

How to Treat Foot Blisters Naturally?
- Turmeric powder- 1 tablespoon
- Vitamin E capsule- 1 (oil from the capsule)
- Water- few drops
- Honey- 1 teaspoon
- Coconut oil- 1 teaspoon
- Combine all the ingredients together to make a thick paste.
- Apply a thick layer of the mixture on your blisters and leave it for several hours. You can also cover it and let it work overnight.
- Rinse off with normal water to get rid of foot blisters.
2. Coconut Oil
- Coconut oil- 1 tablespoon
- Dip a cotton ball or cotton swap in the coconut oil.
- Apply it all over the affected skin. Make sure your feet are clean and dry.
- Continue and repeat the process as often as needed.

- Chamomile tea- 3 to 4 tea bags or 3 to 4 teaspoons of the tea
- Water- as required
- Prepare the chamomile tea and leave it to cool until it feels little warm to touch.
- Dip a washcloth in the tea and squeeze out the excess fluid.
- Place it over the blister and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Follow the process as needed to treat foot blisters.
4. Deodorant Gel
- Deodorant Gel- as per required
- Apply deodorant gel to your feet before slipping on your shoes.
- Make sure your feet are clean and dry.
- Put on your socks and shoes.
5. Epsom Salt
- Epson salt- 2 tablespoon
- Warm water- as required
- Essential oil- few drops (optional)
- Fill up a foot tub with warm water and add the Epsom salt.
- Stir well and soak your feet in the mixture for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Remove your feet from the water and pat them dry.
- Gently massage the essential oil.
- Repeat once a day for 2-3 weeks.
6. Vitamin E
- Vitamin E capsule- 1 to 2 or vitamin E oil- ½ teaspoon
- Any light cream or gel moisturiser- ½ teaspoon
- Mix vitamin E oil with the cream or gel moisturiser.
- Spread it over the blister to cure blisters on your feet fast.
- Alternatively, you can puncture a vitamin E capsule and extract the gel.
- Apply the gel over the blister and repeat once a day till the area heals.
7. White Toothpaste
- Plain white toothpaste (without gels and whiteners) – a little amount
- Essential oil- few drops
- Put a dab of the toothpaste on your finger or a cotton pad.
- Coat the infected area with the paste and leave it for 2 hours.
- Wash off with water and apply any essential oil.
- Repeat a couple of times every day until the blister disappears.
8. Lavender Oil
- Lavender essential oil- 3 to 4 drops
- Rubbing alcohol- ½ teaspoon
- Disinfect a needle with rubbing alcohol and pop the blister with the needle.
- Cover the area with lavender essential oil so that the blister dries up.
- Continue on a regular basis until the area looks better.

9. Witch Hazel
- Witch hazel- as per required
- Dab witch hazel on your blisters using a cotton ball.
- Cover your blisters with gauge strips and let it rest overnight.
10. Castor Oil
- Castor oil- 1 teaspoon
- Apply a layer of castor oil on the affected skin before going to bed as castor oil heals with its medicinal properties.
- Place gauge strips to cover the area.
11. Aloe Vera
- Aloe vera leaf gel extract- 1 tablespoon
- Cut open a clean aloe vera leaf and collect the fresh gel extract. Although store-bought organic aloe vera gels can also be used, the fresh one offers faster relief
- Apply a thick layer of the gel to your blisters
- Do not rinse or wipe it off
- Repeat 2 to 3 times a day until your skin condition improves.
12. Apple Cider Vinegar
- Apple Cider Vinegar- 1 tablespoon
- Using a cotton ball, gently dab vinegar on your blisters.
- Do not wash it off.
- Repeat 2 to 3 times daily till the blister heals.
13. Tea Tree Oil
- Tea tree essential oil- 5 to 6 drops
- Wash your feet and pat dry
- Dip a cotton ball or cotton swab in the oil and apply it to the affected skin.
- Cover the place so that the oil gets absorbed completely.

14. Green Tea
- Green tea bags- 3 bags
- Baking soda- 1 teaspoon
- Water- 1 quart
- Heat the water and add the tea bags and let it boil.
- Strain the liquid and add the baking soda.
- Stir well and leave the mixture to cool down. You can add ice to accelerate the process.
- Immerse your blistered feet in the solution for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Pat dry and repeat every alternate day till your blister vanishes.
Ways to Prevent Foot Blisters
- Make sure to keep your hands and feet clean and dry all through the day
- Wear properly fitted comfortable shoes and slip on a pair of socks with new shoes
- Apply band-aid, paper tape on your feet when you notice any signs of a blister formation
- Use antiperspirants, powders and astringents to prevent perspiration on your skin or if your feet appear itchy and red
- Stay away from extreme levels of stress and anxiety
- Steer clear of repetitive movements on one particular area which can pull up or inflame your skin
